What is Public Health?

It’s everything. And it’s ours.

Public health is everywhere and everything. It’s not a system, it’s not a service, and it’s not something that can be contained in a building or exclusive to one group of people. Public health is everywhere. And it’s ours.

Public health is the water running from your kitchen tap; the safe (and smoke-free) workplace you commute to everyday in a car with mandatory seat-belts, on a highway marked with speed limits and traffic signals; the food you eat at lunch and the bit of salt (iodized) you add for flavour; the restaurant you go to for dinner inspected and certified health inspectors. Public health is everything that improves our health, helps our communities, and make our province a place to comfortably live and work in.
